Sheep and pink pompom cake pops

I made a cake for a lady a couple of days ago you may have seen it on my blog the tigger cake.  She wanted some cake pops for some young girls at a youth club. So I came up with making some cute little sheep and pink glitter pompoms. Cake pops are pretty easy to make you make sponge cake whichever flavour you like. Then once its cooked and cooled you add some homemade butter cream to them enough to make balls with the sponge.  Then you leave in the fridge to harden a little. The next step is to melt the candy melts and dip the cake balls and the lolly pop sticks in to it. This I feel is the hardest bit in the process as some candy melts I have found don't always melt to the same consistency as they should. Then you just decorate them how to want. They are more time consuming than just a traditional cupcake but they are a bit of fun and something a little different. I hope you like mine and more things to come soon. Thank you for reading Hannah's Buns Blog x

50th Birthday Cake

Well this cake was a bit tricky at first for me.  The lady who ordered the cake had said she would like a cake in the shape of 50.  This was fine I knew how to cut the the cake and cover it for this shape but she didn't know what she wanted on it. I asked the lady what she liked and she didn't really know so I suggested flowers and then she told me she liked animals. So I thought up an animal design and then when I spoke to her again she told me she liked tigger.  So I changed my idea and went for something bright and colourful I also wanted to put a few flowers on there and I wanted to make a tigger figure. So here it is! The tigger print is a light sponge cake and the yellow cake it a fruit cake covered with marzipan and rolled fondant. Hope you like the cakes x

Artist Cake

Hey guys, This cake was so much fun to make. The boy it was for is an artist hence the title! At first we wanted to get a piece of his art work on the cake but sadly all his work was at school and as it was a surprise cake so we couldn't get hold of it. So I decided to cover the cake with sugar paste paint splats and make a sugar paint brush and artist palate.  I really love this cake because its so colourful and fun just how an artists cake should be. Thanks for taking the time to look Hannah's Buns :)

Ruby wedding anniversary cake

Hello guys, My first Ruby wedding anniversary cake.  My friend Lyndsey who runs The Garden Room beauty salon in Ridgewell asked me if I could make her a cake. She told me it was to be her mum and dads Ruby Anniversary this year and she wanted me to make a cake for them. She did want me to make some figures for the cake but sadly I didn't have time to make them. We decided to go for something pretty and simple. I made a vanilla sponge with jam and butter cream and covered it with white fondant. I then wrapped a red ribbon around the covered cake board.  I made some sugar paste roses, leaves and painted them red and green. I piped the message she wanted on top and bought some edible Ruby's to go on top. Hope you like and thank you for reading x

Raspberry cupcakes with White Chocolate Butter cream

I have to say I think these are the best tasting cakes I have ever made. Which really shocked me as I'm not normally keen on white chocolate but these cake not only look beautiful but they taste wonderful too. Of course the main thing with cakes is the taste because the reason you make them are to eat so its always my number one goal to get the taste perfect. I have found through my years of cooking that people eat with their eyes too, So of course they should look as good as possible. I think people are learning a bit more about my cakes. When I first started making cakes for the salons their customers didn't think they were real and I thought it was quite a nice comment about my cakes. Also many people that I have made cakes for have not wanted to eat them as they didn't want to spoil all my work but this would be a crime to any chef who just wants people to try and enjoy the food they have made. Thank you for reading, I hope you enjoyed my blog and remember you can find my details on my website if you would like to order any of my cakes and pastries.

Echo Newspaper Competition

Hello readers, I just wanted to write about my competition win. I entered a competition a few months ago which was going on around the country. It was to win 12 months free advertising in the Echo paper and free business mentoring to help my small business grow. To any one who knows me, they know how passionate I am about cooking, I think of it 24 hours a day and am always trying to improve my skills and make my food out standing. I trained as a chef at college and went on to work in some amazing restaurants with some brilliant chefs which I'm really grateful for. I entered in to the competition not really thinking I would go through but when I found out I was in the final 3 in Haverhill I was so shocked. Then I was told I had to go to Bury and do a presentation to 3 judges about my business and goals. I was so scared and nervous because I find things like this really hard, I'm normally quite a quiet person and not used to standing in front of people and talking, but I got through it and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.  I took some cakes and cheese straws with me hoping this may help :) and I just told them of my passion for cooking and dreams of opening my own patisserie. Then a few weeks later I was told I was the winner, I was so happy and excited about the future of Hannah's Buns patisserie. I'm putting on  my blog the news paper article before I won and when the next one is avabile on line I will put it on here for you to see. Thank you for taking the time to read my blog and watch this space :) xx

Hannah's Buns Show Piece

Hey peeps, This cake I've been wanting to make for ages but I just didn't have the time. So this Sunday I gave myself the day to get it done. I wanted a show piece for "Hannah's Buns" I wanted it to show me in the Kitchen doing what I do best "Cook" :) I made a 2 tier cake the bottom is sky blue with clouds and birds. I wanted it to represent Hannah's Buns up in the sky miles above the rest. This is my dream for my cakes to be out standing and the best around, from the taste to the finish look. I made a long plated loaf to go around the cake to show my love for baking bread. Then the top tier is bright pink to show my girlie side and having fun. The crown is to show my ambition to be the Queen of cakes and pastries. I have also made a kitchen on the top layer and me sitting down for a well deserved rest :) I hope you love it, I think this is my best cake yet. Thanks for reading x

Sweet Cupcakes

Sweet cupcakes are the theme this week at A Revolution in Haverhill. I have been making so many different Christmas cupcakes recently I couldn't wait to do something different. I thought these cakes were a bit of fun. I also made my special butter cream that I dyed pink and sprinkled with pink glitter. These cupcakes are made with my own vanilla sponge recipe which is extremely light and tastes wonderful. The vanilla butter cream is soft sweet and pure heaven they really are one to try. I hope you like the pictures and thank you for reading my blog.

Paris Breast

This is the first time I have made this dessert, to be honest I made the rings a little to big so they are a little flat but I was still able to cut them in half and fill them. I first had this dessert at Gordon Ramsey's and I thought it was delicious. I always said I would try to make it and now I have just next time I'll make the rings smaller but learning from your mistakes in cooking is all part of the fun. As long as you remember where you went wrong the last time you know not to make that mistake again "Hopefully" :)
So here it is Paris Breast Hannah's Buns style Choux pastry rings cut in half and filled with chocolate and hazel nut creme patisserie , Vanilla Chantilly cream and drizzle with melted chocolate. Thanks again for taking the time to read my blog x

Festive Gingerbread house with the family

Well the Christmas holidays are nearly over, I cant believe how quick Christmas came and went.  Happy New Year to you all and lets hope 2012 has good things to come. I wanted to put this blog on because we had a lovely time making the gingerbread house together. To be fair we don't cook and decorate cakes much together. I'm normally really busy at home making cakes, reading cooking books or writing my newspaper articles so this was a really nice treat us all working together to make this gingerbread house. I hope you like our pictures I think my children Georgia and Jamie were pretty pleased with the outcome :) Be blogging again soon Thanks Hannah's Buns.
